Space-saving plant ladder with water reservoir without waterlogging.

The plant ladder from URBANATURE is a real space saver. You can display three plant pots vertically in a very small space. The base is flexible. For indoor and covered outdoor areas, you can choose between natural or lacquered ash wood. On request, we also offer the plant ladder in ash with a hard wax oil finish. With a total volume of 2 litres each, the planters are suitable for all standard plant pots with an inner diameter of up to 13.5 cm (also available as a single SPICEPOT). A special plastic insert ensures a stable pH value in the watering can (no contact with concrete). The integrated 200 ml water reservoir significantly reduces the amount of watering required, especially on hot summer days. The light yield of each individual plant is optimised by the slanted arrangement. Whether kitchen herbs or decorative plants – the vertical arrangement offers enough space for them to grow upwards. For outdoor areas exposed to the elements, we offer the stainless steel plant stand. The pot sizes are identical.

Handmade plant ladder for indoor and outdoor use.

The planters are made of particularly smooth exposed concrete and are cast by hand. A special casting process enables a wall thickness of only 7 mm. All wood joints are mortised. The total height is 1.40 m. Installation is easy.

A plant stand with three functional concrete planters.

With the Urbanature plant ladder, the pots are not optional accessories but an integral part of the product. The set includes three hand-cast concrete planters, each with a precisely fitting plastic inner insert and a 200 ml water reservoir.

The planters are part of the tried-and-tested Urbanature pot system, which is also used with the individual SPICEPOT and the HOCHGARTEN plant stand. This means that compatible plant pots, inner inserts and other accessories can be used across different products or purchased separately.

Three plants in a small space.

Instead of placing several plant pots side by side on a windowsill, the floor or a worktop, the plant ladder makes use of the vertical space. Three plants can be arranged neatly and attractively at a height of approximately 1.40 m.

The staggered pot positions create space between the plants. Leaves and shoots can spread out to the sides without the plants immediately obscuring one another. The plant ladder looks particularly attractive when combined with a mix of upright, bushy and trailing plants.

Each with a 200 ml water reservoir.

Each of the three planters has its own 200 ml water reservoir. This provides a total water reserve of up to 600 ml. The inner pot is raised above the water reservoir. This ensures that the plant roots are not constantly submerged in the water. This reduces the risk of waterlogging whilst also creating a small water reserve for hot days or short breaks between watering. Over time, plants can develop water roots and absorb moisture from the lower section. For newly planted plants, a wick can aid water uptake. A water level indicator allows you to check the water level regularly. The actual water requirement depends on the plant species, location, temperature, inner pot and growing medium.

No direct contact between the curing water and the concrete.

Each planter features a precisely fitting inner liner made from recycled plastic. It separates the water used for watering and the plant from the concrete, thereby helping to maintain a stable growing environment. The liners can be removed individually and are easy to clean. At the same time, they protect the concrete planter and make it easier to change or repot the plants. Even without the inner insert, the planters are 100% watertight. The planters have an internal diameter of approx. 13.5 cm and are suitable for standard plant pots with a diameter of up to 13 cm.

Many kitchen herbs, houseplants and small flowering plants can therefore be planted directly in their existing pots. There is no need to repot them straight away.

Suitable examples include:

  • Basil, parsley, chives and mint
  • Ivy, spider plant and philodendron
  • Tradescantia and other hanging plants
  • Small ferns and ornamental foliage plants
  • Compact flowering plants
  • Plants in soil, Seramis or expanded clay

The planters can be removed individually.

All three concrete planters can be removed individually from the wooden frame. This makes it easier to insert, water, clean and replace the plants. There is no need to work on the plants whilst they are still on the ladder. Each planter can be placed comfortably on a table or work surface and then put back in place.

Available as a bench or freestanding.

A plant ladder as a leaning aid

The bench is positioned at a slight angle against a load-bearing wall. This design takes up very little floor space and is ideal for narrow spaces, small kitchens, hallways or covered balconies.

Free-standing plant ladder

The freestanding version has its own support and can be set up without needing to be placed against a wall. It offers greater flexibility in terms of positioning within a room and can, for example, be placed in a free corner, in front of a wall or to the side of a window.

Made from white ash and smooth exposed concrete.

The ladder structure is made from white ash (with hardly any dark heartwood). The very light, finely grained wood has a light and homely feel and provides a natural contrast to the solid concrete planters. All the wooden joints are hand-mortised. The minimalist design features slender cross-sections, allowing as much light as possible to reach the plants.

The planters are hand-cast from exceptionally smooth exposed concrete. A special manufacturing process allows for a planter wall that is only around 7 mm thick. The surface is carefully finished, giving each planter its own unique character.

The plant ladder is available in natural ash wood or with a matt black lacquered finish.

For indoor use and sheltered outdoor areas.

The ash wood plant ladder is designed for use in living rooms, kitchens, offices, conservatories and outdoor areas sheltered from the rain. On a covered balcony or sheltered terrace, it should be positioned so that the wood and concrete planters are not permanently exposed to rain, frost or standing damp. For outdoor areas fully exposed to the elements, the stainless steel version of the Urbanature plant stand is more suitable.

Frequently asked questions about the PLANT LADDER product.

Are the three concrete planters included in the delivery?

Yes. The plant ladder comes with three hand-cast concrete planters and the matching plastic inner inserts. Plants and potting pots are not included.

Are these the same planters as those used for the SPICEPOT?

The planters are based on the same Urbanature pot system. They also have an internal diameter of approx. 13.5 cm, a plastic inner insert and an integrated 200 ml water reservoir. The pots can also be purchased separately as SPICEPOTS. Please leave a note to this effect.

Which plant pots fit inside the planters?

Standard plant pots with a top diameter of up to approx. 13 cm are suitable. Many kitchen herbs and smaller houseplants can therefore be planted directly in their existing pots.

Do the plants need repotting?

No. Plants in suitable pots can be placed directly into the concrete planters. Repotting is only necessary if the existing pot is too large or if you wish to use a different planting system.

How does the water tank work?

The plant pot is raised above a water reservoir with a capacity of approximately 200 ml. Excess water collects in the lower part of the outer pot. The plant can then absorb the moisture via its water roots or a wick.

Does the water reservoir prevent waterlogging?

The raised design of the plant pot separates the root ball from the water reservoir, thereby reducing the risk of prolonged waterlogging. However, the reservoir must not be left permanently overfilled. You should therefore check the water level and the plant’s moisture requirements regularly.

What is the plastic inner insert used for?

The inner liner prevents direct contact between the water used for watering and the concrete. It helps to maintain a stable growing environment, protects the planter and can be easily removed for cleaning.

Can I take the planters off the ladder?

Yes. All three planters can be removed individually. This makes it easy to place plants in them, water them, look after them or replace them.

What is the difference between a wall-mounted and a freestanding plant ladder?

The plant stand is placed at a slight angle against a wall and takes up very little floor space. The freestanding plant ladder has an additional support and can be positioned independently of a wall.

Can the plant ladder be left outside?

The ash wood version is suitable for balconies sheltered from the rain, covered terraces and other sheltered outdoor areas. It should not be left permanently exposed to the elements or subjected to frost and standing damp.

Is the plant ladder also suitable for hydroponics?

With suitable inner pots, expanded clay and a water level indicator, the pot system can also be used for hydroponic plants. In this case, the water level should be checked regularly and the inner insert kept clean.

Which plants are particularly suitable?

Compact herbs, smaller houseplants and trailing plants are ideal. A combination of upright, bushy and trailing plants really brings out the vertical shape of the plant ladder.

How do you clean the concrete planters?

Remove the planters and plastic inner inserts one by one. The inserts can be cleaned gently with water and a mild detergent. The concrete surfaces should be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth. Abrasive or highly acidic cleaning products are not suitable.
