Fresh herbs deserve more than just an ordinary plant pot.

The SPICEPOT by Urbanature combines timeless design with a well-thought-out approach to plant care. Whilst conventional planters collect excess water directly at the base of the pot, thereby encouraging waterlogging, the SPICEPOT features an integrated water reservoir. The inner pot is raised slightly so that the roots are not constantly standing in water. Instead, a water reservoir forms beneath the planter, from which the plant can draw water as required. A wicking tube is supplied to connect the water reservoir to the inner pot. Over time, the plant will develop water roots.

Kitchen herbs in particular, such as basil, parsley and mint, benefit from this natural principle. The soil stays evenly moist, excess water is collected and your windowsill stays clean – without the need for an extra saucer. You can, of course, also buy the inner pot and water level indicator from us.

Your benefits at a glance:

  • Herbs stay fresh for longer thanks to the built-in water reservoir
  • Less watering, more water reserves on hot days
  • A clean windowsill – no coasters needed
  • Timeless design in handcrafted exposed concrete – Made in Germany

Beton Übertopf Mit Wasserspeicher InneneinsatzThe SPICEPOT is manufactured in Germany from high-quality exposed concrete. Its clean lines make it a stylish home accessory for a windowsill, kitchen island or dining table. This transforms an ordinary herb pot into a durable design piece that offers real added value for your plants.

Smart water storage instead of waterlogging.

The raised inner base separates the plant pot from the stored water. This creates a water reservoir beneath the plant. The roots are not constantly submerged in water, whilst at the same time more moisture is available for hot summer days.

No saucer is required for the plant pot.

Any excess water from watering remains entirely in the SPICEPOT. No additional saucers or trays are required. This keeps your windowsill tidy and prevents water marks on furniture.

Ideal for kitchen herbs.

The SPICEPOT has been specially designed for standard herb pots with a diameter of 13 cm. Particularly suitable for:

  • Basil
  • Parsley
  • Chives
  • Mint
  • Oregano
  • Thyme
  • Lemon balm
  • Sage

Perfect for hot summer days.

Kitchen herbs dry out quickly, especially in summer. Many supermarket pots contain very little soil and therefore have hardly any capacity to retain water. Basil, in particular, is sensitive to this fluctuating water supply.

Whilst conventional saucers do collect excess water, they are usually shallow and can quickly overflow when watering. Furthermore, water left standing at the base of the pot for long periods can put strain on the roots. The SPICEPOT offers a better solution: the integrated water reservoir collects excess water from watering and releases it back to the plant as and when needed. This provides the herbs with an extra supply of water, particularly on hot days.

The Urbanature hydro pots offer even greater control: they are also suitable for use with soil and can be combined with a water reservoir and a water level indicator. This allows you to check the water level at any time – without having to water blindly. Water level indicators and matching hydro pots are also available in the shop.

Solid exposed concrete – Made in Germany.

Every SPICEPOT is made from high-quality exposed concrete and carefully finished by hand. The concrete is treated with a continuous sealant, making it 100% waterproof. The surface is primed and sanded twice. This makes the pots super-smooth and dirt-repellent. The smooth surface has a modern, durable look and blends harmoniously into contemporary living spaces. Development, manufacture and quality control all take place in Germany. Short supply chains, high-quality materials and meticulous craftsmanship ensure a long service life.

A Conventional Herb Pot or a SPICEPOT?

Feature Conventional Herb Pot SPICEPOT

Water Supply Water drains away quickly, causing the plant to dry out, especially on hot days. The integrated water reservoir provides an additional water supply and more consistent moisture. Maximum capacity: 200 ml.

Waterlogging Excess water can collect at the bottom of the pot and damage the roots. The raised planting area separates the roots from the water reservoir and reduces the risk of waterlogging. A plastic inner insert helps maintain a stable pH level.

Saucer An additional saucer is required. Shallow saucers can quickly overflow during watering. No saucer is required. Excess water remains in the integrated reservoir.

Care Requirements Frequent checking and watering are necessary, especially in warm temperatures. Less frequent watering thanks to the additional water reserve.

Windowsill & Kitchen Overflowing saucers may leave water stains. Keeps surfaces clean without the need for an additional saucer.

Design A functional plastic pot without any distinctive design features. Handcrafted exposed concrete transforms the herb pot into a durable design object for the kitchen and living space, complete with practical accessories.

Frequently asked questions about the SPICEPOT

How does the SPICEPOT’s water reservoir work?

Excess water collects at the bottom of the SPICEPOT. The herb pot inside is raised off the bottom and is therefore not directly in contact with the water. Once the plant has developed water roots, it can absorb the stored moisture on its own.

Why is a saucer not needed for the plant pot?

The SPICEPOT collects any excess water from watering in its built-in water reservoir. This means there is no need for an additional saucer or tray. As a result, your windowsill, worktop and dining table stay clean and free from any overflowing water.

Is the SPICEPOT suitable for herbs bought from the supermarket?

Yes. Standard herb pots in particular often contain very little soil and therefore dry out quickly. The SPICEPOT’s additional water reservoir helps to ensure a more even supply of water – particularly for basil, parsley, chives and mint.

What is the supplied wick used for?

Young or newly planted plants often have not yet formed water roots that reach down into the reservoir. During this transitional phase, the free wick establishes a connection between the water reservoir and the potting compost. It transports moisture upwards until the plant can draw water from the reservoir independently.

How do you fit the intake wick?

The wick is threaded through an opening in the base of the plant pot. Part of it lies in the potting soil, whilst the lower end extends into the water reservoir. This allows water to be transported from the reservoir to the soil via the principle of capillary action. You can find perfectly fitting and larger plant pots in our shop as accessories.

Does the SPICEPOT prevent waterlogging?

The raised planting area separates the herb pot from the water reservoir, thereby reducing the risk of the roots being constantly submerged in water. However, the reservoir should not be kept filled to the brim at all times. Water requirements depend on the plant, its location and the time of year.

What is the plastic inner insert used for?

The inner liner prevents direct contact between the plant, the water used for watering and the concrete. This ensures that the growing environment remains unaffected by the concrete and that the pH level in the planting area remains constant. At the same time, the liner can be easily removed and cleaned.

Is the SPICEPOT suitable for hot summer days?

Yes. Small herb pots contain only a small amount of soil and therefore have a low water-holding capacity. They dry out particularly quickly in hot weather. The built-in reservoir provides an additional water supply and reduces the risk of the herbs drying out between waterings.

Can I check the water level?

To ensure particularly precise watering, matching Urbanature hydro pots and water level indicators are available. The hydro pots can also be used with soil and feature a slot for the water level indicator. This makes it easy to see how much water is left in the reservoir – eliminating the need for guesswork when watering.

Which plants is the SPICEPOT suitable for?

The SPICEPOT is particularly suitable for kitchen herbs that require regular watering, such as basil, parsley, chives, mint or lemon balm. Mediterranean herbs such as thyme, rosemary, sage or oregano should be watered more sparingly.

Does the plant need repotting?

A suitable herb pot can be placed directly into the SPICEPOT. For long-term use and better control of watering, we recommend a suitable Urbanature hydroponic pot, which is suitable for both soil and hydroponics.
