Extendable Desk for Small Spaces

More workspace exactly when you need it: The URBAN DESK is a compact, extendable desk designed for small spaces, modern living areas, and home offices. When retracted, the desktop is only 42 cm deep. For working, it extends synchronously and horizontally to 66 cm. This creates a fully functional workspace that returns to its slim profile after work.

Your benefits at a glance:

Extends from 42 to 66 cm in depth
The monitor remains securely in place on the fixed superstructure
Two built-in A4-sized drawers
High-quality materials and durable construction

The fixed top section remains in place when the desk is pulled out. This means that the monitor, lamp and work accessories do not need to be rearranged every time. Two built-in A4-sized drawers provide additional storage space for documents and everyday work items.
Solid wood, exposed wooden joints and a sturdy worktop with a linoleum finish emphasise the high-quality character of the furniture. The URBAN DESK combines precise functionality with a calm, minimalist design – for anyone who doesn’t want their workspace to look like an office all the time.

Small things grow into big ones.

The URBAN DESK was designed for living spaces where a fully-fledged workspace is needed but no separate study is available. Rather than taking up a lot of space all the time, the desk adapts to your daily routine. When closed, the movable worktop is 42 cm deep. To work, it is pulled forwards, increasing its depth to 66 cm. This provides ample space for a keyboard, mouse, documents and other work equipment. Once the work is done, the worktop is simply pushed back in. The workspace immediately looks sleeker and tidier.

Pull out horizontally – can bear a full load without creaking.

What makes the URBAN DESK special is its precision-engineered extension mechanism. The tabletop moves forwards synchronously whilst remaining horizontal. It does not sag and does not need to be folded up or supported additionally. The design is built to withstand daily use. All relevant joints and screw connections are designed to withstand long-term stress. The mechanism is maintenance-free and allows for convenient expansion of the work surface.

The URBAN DESK is particularly suitable for:

small flats and compact living spaces
Working from home in the living room or bedroom
Guest room with an additional workspace
Flats, holiday flats and hotels
Work areas with limited depth
People with high standards of design and quality

The monitor stops working.

Whilst the worktop moves, the raised superstructure remains firmly in place. Monitors, lights or small work tools do not need to be removed when opening and closing the desk. The sturdy and rigid superstructure is also designed to support larger monitors. Thanks to the raised position of the screen, it also promotes a well-organised and ergonomic workspace layout.

Two drawers with no visible fittings.

Beneath the monitor unit are two A4-sized drawers. They provide space for documents, notebooks, writing materials, chargers and other work essentials. The runners are concealed on the inside. This preserves the desk’s minimalist design and ensures that the technical mechanisms of the drawers remain visually unobtrusive.

Solid wood meets linoleum.

The URBAN DESK is made from high-quality wood-based materials and solid wood. Visible wood joints deliberately highlight the craftsmanship of the construction. No veneers are used. The laminated worktop is covered with hard-wearing linoleum. The material has a pleasantly warm feel, is durable and suitable for everyday use as a writing and work surface. The combination of wood and linoleum gives the URBAN DESK a more premium look than traditional office furniture made from coated chipboard, plastic or metal.

Less material, well-thought-out stability.

The design has been stripped back to the essentials. Despite the minimal use of materials, the frame remains stable and resistant to twisting. Each component fulfils a clear function and contributes to the furniture’s sleek appearance. The URBAN DESK is therefore no ordinary computer desk, but a carefully designed piece of furniture for contemporary living and working. A desk on which you can once again write a letter – by hand, of course.

A Conventional Desk or the URBAN DESK?

Feature	Conventional Desk	URBAN DESK

Space Requirements	The entire work surface remains permanently visible in the room.	After work, the desktop can be retracted from a depth of 66 cm to just 42 cm.

Work Surface	Has a fixed, unchangeable depth.	Can be extended smoothly and horizontally from a depth of 42 cm to 66 cm whenever required.

Monitor	Often stands directly on the work surface and reduces the available space.	Sits on a fixed, raised upper section and does not need to be moved when the desktop is extended.

Storage	Drawers or mobile pedestals often need to be added separately.	Two A4-sized drawers are space-efficiently integrated into the upper section.

Extension Mechanism	Extendable desktops may need to be folded up or supported separately.	The desktop extends synchronously while remaining horizontal, stable and fully load-bearing.

Materials	Often made from coated chipboard, plastic or metal.	Made from solid wood, laminated blockboard and durable linoleum.

Design	Usually looks like a permanent office workstation.	Combines a fully functional workspace with the character of a high-quality piece of furniture. It always looks neat and uncluttered.

Frequently asked questions about the URBAN DESK

How does the extendable worktop work?

The worktop is pulled forwards evenly. It moves in sync and remains completely level throughout. There is no need to tilt it up, lower it or provide additional support.

How deep is the worktop?

When pushed in, the depth of the pull-out worktop is approx. 42 cm. It can be pulled out to a depth of approx. 66 cm for use.

Does the monitor need to be removed before moving out?

No. The monitor is mounted on the fixed frame, which does not move when the worktop is pulled out. The monitor, lamp and accessories can therefore remain in place.

Is the stand suitable for large monitors?

Yes. The stand is designed to be stable and resistant to bending, and is also suitable for larger monitors. The screen should be positioned as centrally as possible and ensure it is stable.

Does the tabletop sag when it is extended?

No. The special pull-out mechanism moves the worktop forwards horizontally. The surface remains level and can support weight even when extended.

Is the URBAN DESK suitable for small rooms?

Yes. The desk has been specially designed for rooms with limited space. After work, the desk top slides back to a depth of 42 cm, making the workspace appear significantly more compact. The Urban Desk is a piece of furniture with a minimal visual presence in the room.

Does the desk have storage space?

Beneath the monitor unit are two built-in A4-sized drawers. They provide space for documents, writing implements, chargers and small work accessories.

What materials is the URBAN DESK made of?

The desk combines solid wood and a laminated blockboard top with a linoleum work surface. No veneers are used. The Urban Desk is available in white-oiled ash and clear-oiled oak.

What are the advantages of a linoleum surface?

Linoleum has a pleasantly warm, matt feel and is ideal for use as a writing or work surface. It is hard-wearing, easy to look after and feels less cold than surfaces made of glass, metal or plastic.

Does the URBAN DESK promote an ergonomic working posture?

The raised base allows the monitor to be positioned at a more comfortable height. This makes it easier to adjust the screen to suit your individual sitting position. However, a suitable office chair and the correct screen height remain essential.

How do you clean the URBAN DESK?

A soft, slightly damp cloth is sufficient for regular cleaning. Spills should be wiped up promptly. Harsh, abrasive or solvent-based cleaning products are not suitable for wood or linoleum.

What distinguishes the URBAN DESK from a secretary’s desk?

A traditional secretary desk often has a fold-down work surface and relatively little legroom. With the URBAN DESK, the sturdy tabletop slides out horizontally towards the front. This creates a fully-fledged workspace without the need to move the monitor. The URBAN DESK can also be placed in the middle of the room.

Is the URBAN DESK only suitable for working from home?

No. It can also be used as a space for writing, studying or creative work. Thanks to its homely design, it is also suitable for guest rooms, flats, holiday accommodation or prestigious workspaces.

What award has the URBAN DESK received?

The URBAN DESK was a finalist in the Green Product Award 2025. The focus was on its space-saving design, minimal use of materials and the combination of office and home furniture.
