Retrofit irrigation system – naturally watering plants from below.
With Urbanature’s retrofit irrigation system, existing planters from the fold-out raised bed range and the Vertical Garden models can be easily fitted with a well-designed water supply system. The water is channelled directly into the lower section of the planter via the side watering corners. From there, the moisture rises into the growing medium as required, supplying the roots from below.
This method of watering preserves the structure of the soil. As the water is no longer applied to the surface from above, the growing medium is significantly less likely to be washed away or compacted. The soil remains looser and more well-drained – an important factor in ensuring that air can reach the root zone.
Better aeration promotes healthy root growth and reduces the risk of waterlogging in heavily compacted soil. At the same time, the plants can absorb the stored water exactly where it is needed: at the roots.
The integrated watering corners allow for neat and precise watering without unnecessarily wetting the leaves, flowers or the soil surface. This makes plant care easier and ensures a more even supply of water.
The Urbanature retrofit irrigation system combines simple watering with improved growing conditions – for loose soil, more oxygen in the root zone and vigorous, well-nourished plants.
